Outdoor Learning

Embracing nature by learning beyond the classroom

Nature-inspired Education

Physical, mental & educational growth

We believe in fresh air, woods, mud, sea and sand. Learning outside the classroom is a large part of life at St Peter’s Preparatory School. We know that being outdoors in the fresh air and within nature has huge benefits for a child’s physical and mental wellbeing and that Forest School, sailing and Beach School expand children’s horizons.

The perfect location

An enriching landscape

The school is situated overlooking the Exe Estuary and within a 10-minute drive of Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton beaches as well as the wilderness of Woodbury Common. Our younger children enjoy Beach School regularly and older children can sail every week in the summer or learn to wakeboard. All children use our forest area and wildlife garden whether for bird watching, den building, tree climbing or taking part in Science or Geography lessons.

In the summer term, it is not unusual to see, for example, a drama or music lesson taking place on one of our many lawns as the children and staff alike enjoy the space, sunny weather and the view over the Estuary from their outside classroom.
