Growing Something Special at St Peter’s
We were delighted to share recently that St Peter’s has been awarded RHS Level 4 Gardening for Schools; a wonderful recognition of the gardening work already taking place across the school.
This week we brought together a group of keen staff and parents involved in gardening to look at where we are now and how we might develop this further. It was a really positive meeting, with lots of enthusiasm and ideas for making better use of the spaces we already have across the school site.
We are exploring ways to expand gardening across the site, including making the most of our existing raised beds and growing areas, and looking at some potential new spaces and resources.
In Pre-prep, we are also considering how gardening could become a bigger part of our Learning Beyond the Classroom provision, including through Wild Woods and the growing areas in Nursery and the Pre-prep playground.
Our Gardening Club will be making the most of the autumn and winter months, with a focus on both growing and supporting wildlife. There are already some lovely ideas in the pipeline, including ‘Grow Your Own Chips and Ketchup’! We will also be getting our broad beans, bulbs and mulch underway.
We are looking at ways to learn more about the wildlife around us, including potentially introducing wildlife cameras in Wild Woods.
It is exciting to see gardening developing across St Peter’s, and the RHS Level 4 award is a lovely acknowledgement of the work already happening. We look forward to seeing where we can grow from here!
I very much look forward to seeing St Peter’s families at our Open day for All tomorrow morning. As you know, we like to see current families enjoying the opportunity to explore the facilities and meet staff from different areas of the school. House points are awarded!
Have a lovely weekend all.
Kind regards,
Charlotte
