All primary year groups back at St Peter’s Prep School

St Peter’s Preparatory School is opening its doors this week to all pupils in Years 2, 3, 4 and 5, as well as to the Nursery, Reception, Year 1, Year 6 pupils and the children of key workers and vulnerable children who are already on-site.

Head, Mrs Charlotte Johnston, comments: “With children in bubbles of 15 and by making careful use of our extensive site, we are able to give each bubble of pupils their own demarcated play area in our grounds, as well as their own classroom and designated teaching staff. We have supplies of PPE, particularly for our full-time matron, and we have adapted our routines so that children are taken from their parents’ car by their teacher in the morning in a drop and go system. Parents are not leaving their vehicles and coming into school buildings so that we minimise the number of extraneous people on-site. It has been delightful to see how happy our pupils are to see their friends and teachers again and I am eternally grateful to the flexibility of the staff in adapting to this ‘new normal.’ Packed lunches are made by the school’s catering team and delivered to the bubbles so they can picnic outside if the weather is kind.”

According to the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) when they inspected St Peter’s Preparatory School in Lympstone between 10 and 12 March 2020: “The quality of the pupils’ academic and other achievements is excellent and the quality of pupils’ personal development is excellent.”

In addition, the inspection report states: “The outstanding achievement and progress are underpinned by the implementation and consistent delivery across all ages and stages of the St Peter’s School Baccalaureate®️ which is a bespoke skills-based curriculum where pupils are empowered as individuals to be involved in and plan the course of their own learning.”

Whilst it is not possible for St Peter’s to run open days at the moment, Ms Rachel Elliott, Director of Admissions & Marketing, says: “We are experiencing an upsurge in recruitment this month (resulting in waiting lists in a number of year groups) and we are dealing with this by offering personal and socially distanced tours of our grounds, online taster days and virtual transition meetings for our September 2020 new starters.”

Ms Rachel Elliott, the school’s Director of Admissions & Marketing, is available for all new inquiries on 01395 280335 or email rachel.elliott@stpetersprepschool.co.uk.
