Autumn Term 2022 Week 6

Last week, in my role as Vice Chair of IAPS I ran the IAPS and HMC conference alongside the HMC chair for this year Melvyn Roffe, Headmaster of George Watson’s College, Edinburgh.  The conference was themed ‘Enlightened Education’ and took place at the International Conference Centre in Edinburgh.

It was a huge event with around 350 Prep School Heads, 350 Senior School (HMC) Heads, as well as 50 speakers and around 150 guests.  My first welcome speech was attended by nearly 1000.  It was a nerve-wracking, but exciting, few days with my particular focus being on well-being and support for Heads.

The first day was an international conference held at Fettes College in Edinburgh for schools based overseas, Followed by the full conference.

Speakers were exceptional from Marc Randolph,  the founder of Netflix, to Tanni Grey-Thompson, Sarah Brown, Nicola Benedetti and Avis Glaze.  There was a very special inter-faith service at St Cuthbert’s Church and a fabulous dinner at the National Museum of Scotland.  We also attended a Ceilidh and I hiked up Arthur’s Seat at O6:00 with fellow Heads one morning, all for Charity.

The team has been incredible in my absence and I thank them for their exceptional work.

It has been wonderful to be back on school site and back to normal!  Please enjoy the newsletter this week. Don’t forget Harvest Festival goods for next week and I very much look forward to seeing many families at our Dog Walk tomorrow (dogs not necessary).  Please see the poster for details.
