Autumn term 2024, week 7

Thank you so much to Mrs Kingdon, Mrs Clemow and Mrs Glanvill in particular for all of their work on the Glow in the Dark Disco.  We will share pictures during half-term of the fun times which were had today.  Thank you also to Jack Barry (Digital Marketing and IT Support Officer) for his work on the half-term celebration newsletter which will be emailed to parents during the holiday.  I can’t quite believe how much has gone on this half-term already, particularly considering all the rain.  A highlight for me this week was the U7 Rugby tournament – those Year 2s were so excited and showed some great skills on the pitch – not only in game play but also while hosting some local schools.

There may be bonfire nights and fireworks over the break and I wanted to write to remind families on how best to attend and keep children safe.

As Bonfire Night approaches, we at St Peter’s Prep want to ensure that all our families enjoy the celebrations whilst staying safe. Fireworks and bonfires can be exciting, but they come with risks that are important to be aware of. Whether you’re attending an organised display or celebrating at home, following a few simple guidelines can make a big difference in keeping everyone safe.

If you’re planning your own fireworks display, please remember that only adults should handle fireworks. Always buy from reputable retailers, read the instructions, and keep fireworks at arm’s length when lighting them. For younger children, sparklers can be fun, but they should be used with caution. Always supervise children, make sure they wear gloves, and dispose of sparklers safely in a bucket of water once they’ve burnt out. Similarly, bonfires should be built in a safe, clear area, away from buildings or trees, and kept small and manageable. Never use flammable liquids to get the fire going, and always extinguish the fire completely at the end of the night.

We also encourage families to consider attending an organised bonfire and fireworks display. These events are professionally managed, reducing the risks and often offering a more spectacular show than you might create at home. There are details of the local RNLI Firework Display in the Community pages of this newsletter. Most importantly, whatever your plans, remember to keep pets indoors, as fireworks can be distressing for them. We wish all our St Peter’s families a safe, happy, and memorable Bonfire Night!

Have a fantastic half-term.
