It has been a very busy and joyful week here at St Peter’s, full of celebration, creativity and a good deal of sunshine.
I was thoroughly spoilt as I celebrated a milestone birthday. I arrived to find my office brimming with balloons, cards and the most thoughtful gifts. I felt incredibly lucky and very special – thank you to everyone who played a part in that.
Three pupils shared my birthday: Freya (4), Cora (5) and Ozzy (6), and we marked the occasion together with a delightful little tea party. Heidi worked her magic in the kitchen and produced a delicious orange drizzle cake. A few fortunate passers-by who popped in to wish me happy returns were rewarded with a slice – it would have been quite un-Mary Poppins-like not to share!
I then spent the first day of my 50th year dressed as Mary Poppins – and what a practically perfect in every way way to begin. Spit spot and off we go into World Book Day!
The effort the children had gone to this year was impressive and such a celebration of reading and imagination. I loved Teddy in Nursery, who arrived wearing a cardboard box train; James, who gamely carried an enormous inflatable giant peach through the day; and Ben, who made a magnificent Fantastic Mr Fox, complete with a basket of game birds. The creativity, humour and sheer commitment were wonderful to see.
Mrs Robertson added to the merriment with a quiz in which teachers had been ‘AI’d’ into their favourite book characters. The children loved trying to guess who was who – and I suspect some of the staff may never quite live down their literary alter egos!
Weeks like this remind us what a special community St Peter’s is – warm, imaginative, kind and full of fun.
Enjoy the weekend. The sunshine has been very warmly welcomed and there is no doubt that spring is here.
Have a lovely weekend with your families.
