Summer Term 2023, Week 7

On Tuesday, the Upper School and Year 5 treated the audience at St Peter’s Church Budleigh to an exceptional evening of music. We enjoyed solo performances on instruments including cello, tuba and trombone, some impressive group recitals, beautiful singing from our chamber choir and a thoroughly enjoyable performance from the senior choir to round things off. It was the first time in four years that we were able to hold our Summer Concert and we are delighted that this is back as a main fixture on the calendar. Congratulations to all involved and thanks to Mr Hoban and Miss Morris for their work preparing the children.

This week has seen some really tremendous cricket matches and I have been very proud of the pupils and indeed the grounds. We are very lucky to have such a beautiful environment for the children to use for their games lessons and it really does come into its own in the Summer term. St Peter’s played fixtures against Exeter Cathedral School, Taunton, Trinity and Mount Kelly this week, with added complications of a minibus breakdown on Wednesday and a stuck coach on Thursday to create some logistical headaches for the wonderful team on-site.

On Thursday evening, we welcomed the Lympstone Village cricket team and supporters to play the St Peter’s ‘Harefield’ team, comprising staff, parents and alumni. We were blessed with beautiful light and a calm wind. The barbeque was well received and there was a lovely family atmosphere to the event. St  Peter’s won, scoring 186 runs to the village’s 180, with the tailenders of Mr Doku and Mr Morris scoring a number of sixes with one over to go.

This weekend is the Summer fête. Thank you to the PTA and Mrs Wellington-Smith for organising this. Hopefully, the weather will stay fair. We look
forward to seeing you there and I can’t wait to judge the dog show!
