Before half term St Peter’s were represented by four keen sailors in the IAPS U11 and U13 competition in Weymouth. Day one saw Max and Joe join the 27 entries in the RS Zest fleet, where they sailed three races in challenging conditions with the maximum average wind of just 3.5 knots!
Despite a tricky first race that lasted more than 1.5hrs in the midday sun, the boys secured a 14th place, and as the breeze picked up they romped home with a 4th and 2nd place in the final two races. They secured a very credible 5th and, having only sailed together for the first time very recently – they proved to be a fantastic team!
On day two, Josh and Angus sailed in the Feva fleet, which attracts the more experienced sailors; particularly in this age group. There were 22 entries, including a World Champion and a notable number of competitors sporting National Squad badges! Despite very light and fickle breeze in the first race, the conditions improved during the 4 races, and by the end they were hiking hard in the stronger winds.
The boys did really well to come 8th overall, only one point away from 6th place. They held steely nerve, with 3 really good starts and some smart tactics demonstrated during the racing and came off the water exhausted but very happy!
