Experiential learning is the process of learning through experience, and is more specifically defined as “learning through reflection on doing”.
Having been on the Rome tour over this October half term and watched the Year 7 & 8 pupils closely, I have never been more convinced during my time in teaching that the more our pupils actually DO and do for themselves, then the more they learn.
This ‘experiential learning’ was a focus for the St Peter’s staff team about 4 years ago. We have since introduced, sewn in and embedded so many concepts across our curriculum that we have demanded more and more experiential learning daily.
When I am out and about in lessons watching the Teaching and Learning across Nursery to Year 8 classrooms I see evidence of this happening all the time. Layers and layers of experiences and reflections for the children to maximise their learning and deepen their understanding. We hope that the St Peter’s weekly celebration newsletter distributed to parents along with posts such as this give you just a tiny flavour of the volume of experiential learning children receive here at St Peter’s.
