When your child starts school, there are often many questions you have that need answering, and often there isn’t always time or an opportunity to ask the staff. In this blog post, we will be sharing information on some of the frequently asked questions we receive from parents. Remember, you can always find more information on the dedicated pages on our website.

Where can I find the term dates?

The term dates for St Peter’s Preparatory School in Devon are listed under our ‘Calendar’ tab, which also has information on PTA events and the school calendar detailing what may be happening on specific days.

What subjects are taught?

The following subjects are included on the curriculum: English, mathematics, science, religion and philosophy, geography, history, art and design, drama, games and physical education, information and communications technology, music, personal, social, health and citizenship education, French and Spanish.

How do I book an open day?

Open days offer parents a chance to tour the school, find out about day-to-day activities and talk to pupils and staff. Do you offer school transport?

We have a fleet of six minibuses driven by our own drivers which have various routes to pick pupils up from places such as Exeter, Newton Abbot, Sidford and Cotleigh. Cost of the transport and contact information for the Transport Manager can be found here.

Is there before and after school care in place?

St Peter’s provides flexible wraparound care between 08:00 and 18:00. There is an option of breakfast or supper with the boarders as well as taking part in boarders’ activities or boarding itself. Working parents find this flexibility hugely beneficial.

Will my child have an opportunity to learn an instrument?

The director of music and his team at St Peter’s Prep run chamber, senior and junior choirs, wind band, clarinet trio, string and flute group, recorder ensemble and Syncapeters. Peripatetic music teachers also come into the school to provide individual tuition in a variety of instruments.

What is your approach to homework?

Homework is an opportunity for pupils to share their learning with their parents and enables children to take pride in their work and develop a good work habit. It also gives staff another way to assess how much the children have understood and retained. Take a look at our homework policy here.

What is included in the admissions’ process?

Choosing a school is important, and we are happy to help you make this decision. Start the admission process with requesting a prospectus. Next, come and visit the school on one of our open mornings or request a tour with our Head. After touring you complete and submit a registration form. Children then join us for a taster day. Taster days give children an experience of lessons, teachers can observe behaviour and performance and make sure the prospective pupil is the right fit for St Peter’s Preparatory School.

We want to make sure pupils attending our mixed boarding school Devon are happy and excited about the learning they have ahead of them. Take a look through our other blog posts for more news and information about the school.
