Spring term 2026, week 4

Signs of Spring

As we move into the first week of February, there are already welcome signs that the seasons are turning. Snowdrops are carpeting the woods and lining the drive, with a cheerful bunch even brightening my desk, and daffodils and narcissi are beginning to push their way through too. In the ancient calendar, 1 February, St Brigid’s Day, marked the first day of spring. If that is the case, then as far as we are concerned, winter is done and we are looking firmly ahead to spring.

For those of you who may have missed it Countryfile made an episode about the Exe Estuary. Its great viewing!

That sense of renewal feels particularly fitting after the recent storms which have battered East Devon. Our thoughts are very much with any families locally who have been flooded or stranded during this difficult time. Thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding with disrupted transport, early collections and bus changes, it has meant a great deal. Some local schools were forced to close, and we were fortunate to be able to remain open and here for our families.

Finally, thank you to all our staff for their calm, commitment and hard work throughout a challenging period. Some of our staff journeys in were heroic!  It has been truly appreciated.

Wishing everyone a restful and well-deserved weekend.

Charlotte
