Summer term 2026, week 4

There is something wonderfully timeless about cricket in a prep school and the season is now firmly underway at St Peter’s. Our new cricket nets, installed last year, are proving a huge success and it has been wonderful to see pupils of all ages developing their skills and enthusiasm for the game. The grounds are looking splendid, with St Peter’s whites and traditional cable-knit cricket jumpers very much in evidence — surely one of the great sights of the summer term! On Tuesday, our Year 2 pupils enjoyed a brilliantly organised Cricket Festival, enthusiastically taking part in all the activities and already looking forward to starting matches in earnest when they reach Year 3 next year.

This Easter was also a very proud moment for our family as my niece received her England cap following her debut on the England Cricket U19 tour to Australia, and I look forward to watching her play for Somerset at Taunton this summer. We are also looking forward to the annual Harefield Cricket Match, on Tuesday 23 June where the Lympstone Village team take on St Peter’s in a much-loved community fixture. It always creates something of a dilemma for Mr Johnston, who normally plays for Lympstone but swaps sides to represent St Peter’s for the Harefield match!

Next week, Year 2 is off to Dartmoor for the day and we wave off Year 5 for their Adventure residential trip at Barton Hall. We have musical performances taking place at the Devon County Show on Thursday with some of the older children and I am also very much looking forward to the Year 4 Orchestral Performance on Friday. Every child in Year 4 learns an orchestral instrument, included within the fees, and it is always remarkable how much progress they make in just two terms.

I hope that you have a lovely weekend with your families.
