Top Easter Holiday Activities in Devon 2022

It’s that time of the year when the Easter bunny is hopping all over Devon to bring you some of the best events over the Easter holidays.

If you’re looking for activities that the whole family can enjoy over the Easter period, the you’re in the right place! As a boarding school community at St Peter’s Prep in Harefield, we always like to share what’s going on in the local area during term time and the holidays. From theme parks to farmyards, we’re sure you’ll find the perfect activity for you and your family this Easter.

House of Marbles

The House of Marbles in Newton Abbot promises a marble-ous day out for all of the family. There’s lots to see, from traditional glassblowing practices to the UK’s largest marble run called ‘Snooki 2000’ and a Games Museum with games dating back to 1600.

What’s more, their annual Easter event is always set to be a sell-out.

RHS Rosemoor

Join in the fun at The Giant Egg Hunt at RHS Rosemoor from the 9th-24th April. Egg-explorers will be handed a list of cryptic clues to crack, leading to where the eggs are hidden.

Large painted eggs will also be decorating the gardens, providing the perfect photo opportunity as they are a spectacle to see in themselves! The Easter Bunny will be making appearances across Rosemoor throughout the Easter period, so keep your eyes peeled.

Crealy Park

Take a trip back in time to the Jurassic period with Crealy’s Eggo-saurus Dino Hunt from 9th-24th April. Brave explorers will be handed a list of clues and prehistoric maps to uncover the secret dino hiding places and reveal the chocolate-y surprise at the end of the trail.

Theatre Production at Pavilions Teignmouth

Following the dinosaur theme, So You Think You Know About Dinosaurs will be performed live on the 22nd April. The show promises to be a prehistoric, interactive adventure that Dr Ben Garrod will take you and your fellow egg-sporers on! If someone in your house is mad about dinosaurs, this is the perfect event for them.

The Big Sheep

Described as ‘the best family day out in North Devon’, The Big Sheep features a large indoor play area, lots of family rides and, of course, tonnes of cute animals who call this farm their home.

What better way to get into the Easter spirit than seeing newborn lambs up close in the Nursery Barn? There are many other animals such as piglets, goats, alpacas, llamas and chicks which you can visit at the petting zoo too.

Pottery painting

Get creative by painting different pots, clay animals, plates and mugs this Easter. The Paint Hub in Dawlish Warren and ClayArt in Plymouth offer the perfect setting to paint ceramics and relax.

If you’ve got a birthday over the Easter holidays, both studios also offer birthday parties for children.

Easter eggs and an Easter bunny

Clovelly Village Easter Chick Hunt

Have a c-lovelly day out in the historic village of Clovelly, near Bideford by traversing the cobbled streets all the way to the harbour whilst looking for Easter chicks perched at different locations. There are up to 15 Easter chicks to be spotted and once you’ve found at least 10, you can return to the visitor centre where something sweet will be waiting for you.

Great for children and adult orienteers too!

Bicton Gardens

Explore some of the impressive 64 acres of Bicton Gardens on Saturday 16th, Sunday 17th and Monday 18th April during their annual Easter egg hunt. There’s plenty for all of the family to do at Bicton with the tropical house, Italian garden, arboretum and the infamous railway all on one site. However, the other attractions may have to wait as we’re sure finding Easter eggs will be the priority this holiday season.

Killerton House

The National Trust’s well loved Easter egg hunt is back for another year at Killerton House from 9th-24th April. Children have the opportunity to pick their own route with their activity pack in tow. After completing ten of the nature-based activities within the gardens, return to HQ to receive a yummy and well deserved chocolate egg.

Some events may be rescheduled due to Covid, so it’s always best to check with the organiser first. If you can’t make it to an Easter Egg hunt in person this year, Cadbury are also running a ‘world wide hide’ where you can virtually hide an Easter egg in a location with sentimental value for a loved one.

We hope you get to enjoy some of these great spots and Easter activities this year. Easter is a change to relax, recharge and have fun, so we hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday!
