Following the success of Lower School Sports Day last week, we began this week with our Pre-prep Sports Day in glorious sunshine on the Hallett field. The children showed incredible determination in their running, jumping and throwing, making it a truly special event. My thanks go to our fantastic sports team and all the staff who work so hard behind the scenes to make days like this possible.
This week also saw the launch of our exciting new alumni initiative, WASPS – We Are St Peter’s. Officially launching at Speech Day, WASPS will enable former pupils to remain connected and continue to be part of the St Peter’s family. You can read more here, with further information to follow over the coming weeks. My thanks to Mr Barry and Mr Morris for their work in bringing this project to life. You may have also noticed our recent ‘Let Them Be Little’ and ‘Experts in Childhood’ social media campaign. These messages capture so much of what makes St Peter’s such a special place and reflect our commitment to protecting and celebrating childhood. This week also brought the news that social media is set to be banned for children under the age of 16 from next year. This is something we wholeheartedly support at St Peter’s and, from speaking to many parents, I know it will strengthen the message that we are all trying to promote both at school and at home.
Congratulations to our U11 cricket team who finished as runners-up in the South West Regional Finals this week. It was a nail-biting match at King’s College Taunton and the team represented the school brilliantly. We also have a number of pupils who have qualified for National Prep Schools Athletics Finals following an extremely successful athletics competition at Mount Kelly on Sunday. We wish them every success.
It sounds as though it was another busy St Peter’s weekend, with the Year 1 Family Camping Trip proving a great success and reinforcing the strength of our school community.
Meanwhile, Year 8 arrived safely in France and are enjoying a tremendous residential in the sunshine after their overnight ferry crossing. Year 6 are also away this week in London. We have seen photos of them at The Tower of London and have heard about their super theatre experience. We look forward to hearing more about both year groups’ adventures on their return.
As we move towards the final few weeks of term, there remains much to celebrate, and I continue to be enormously proud of all that our pupils, staff and families achieve together.
